Review of The Quiet (2005) by Alex F — 29 Aug 2008
More titilation then anything. you get to see Edie Falco naked and Elisha Cuthbert in her underwear and in states of undress for 75% of the movie. That has a plot that makes no sense. it's a thriller that involves incest which is in bad taste that this film seems to aspire to like it already expects this to be a cult movie or ridiculous to future audiences while taking itself totally seriously.
then has the nerve to make it seem like a female empowerment story. While trying to convey the message that all men are evil or jerks.this movie sends the wrng message as that it is all surface nothing too deep just like the actresses performance it's all show no depth.
Especailly since you know that the two actresses are capable of better. It's by the director of "But I'm A Cheerleader" so I was expecting more from this movie that seems like a sexual thriller strangely aimed at teenagers.
it is beautifully shot and the prodcution design is top notch. but you already know your in trouble if a person or reviewer notes those two things first and foremost, unless it's a period piece. it has a good cast but it's an effort for nothing if the story made sense.
it could have saved the movie and be decent. the way it is now, it's like watching a very slow skinemax movie that lacks nudity and sex scenes but alot of teasing. with more talk and promise of sex then actually showing it.
Which is odd for a movie marketed as a erotic thriller.
