Review of The Quick and the Dead (1995) by Nigel D — 02 Sep 2008
This over-the-top Western action movie by a pre-'Spider-Man' Sam Raimi is full of colorful characters and bizarre, stylish camera moves. By and large, the cast is excellent--particularly Gene Hackman (of course) and Russell Crowe--and they make it fun to watch. A very young Leonardo DiCaprio is good in his role, as well.
The problem lies in the female lead. For while Sharon Stone does an admirable job and gives one of her better performances, this is still Sharon Stone we're talking about, and she just can't match up to Hackman in the acting department. Here, the movie falls a little flat.
