Review of The Quick and the Dead (1995) by Kevin R — 20 Jan 2015
This is my town!
A western town gang leader, Herod, holds the city hostage and initiates a gunfight tournament to bring down the town numbers and show them who is boss. He wants to show everyone in town who is the fastest draw, including his son, his former colleagues, the town, and those who would try to take revenge. Will Herod prove his point or will one of his enemies win (which is everyone else)?
"He gets fifty cents on every dollar the town gets.".
"What's the town get?".
"To live.".
Sam Raimi, director of Evil Dead I & II, Army of Darkness, Spiderman 1 - 3, For Love of the Game, The Gift, Drag Me to Hell, and Oz the Great and Powerful, delivers The Quick and the Dead. The storyline for this picture is very mediocre but the action and acting is fun and the shootouts were cool. The cast was impressive and includes Gene Hackman, Leonardo DiCaprio, Russell Crowe, Sharon Stone, Keith David, and Lance Henrickson.
"You're pretty.".
"You're not.".
"I need a woman.".
"You need a bath.".
I remember watching this movie as a kid and thinking it was very mediocre; watching it again, it is still very mediocre. However, it was fun to watch the interactions between each unique character. The dialogue was very fun, but the overall picture is very average and just okay. I do recommend seeing this picture once, but it's far from a classic or Raimi's best work.
"Spotted horse cannot be killed by a bullet.".
Grade: C+.
