Review of The Quick and the Dead (1995) by Alan O — 18 Sep 2009
Sam Raimi dips into the western genre with mixed results, this before the money making machine of Spiderman, and after his Evil Dead triumphs.
Sam brings his own style and flashy camera work to the genre, and for the most part it works quite well. The film is shot beautifully, Sharon Stone looks absolutely stunning, and Gene Hackman makes for a suitable bad guy. It just never gets above mediocre territory, it's not memorable enough to differentiate itself from all the other westerns before it. When the direct competition comes in the form of other western movies like "Unforgiven" then you have a lot to look up to.
