Review of The Quick and the Dead (1995) by Sean S — 06 Sep 2012
I think critics and audiences look at this with just a little too much disdain. Everyone gets the humour of Evil Dead, but misses it in this tribute to Spaghetti Westerns? Sam Raimi's fun with the material and script are evident, and the surprising appearances of pre-fame Leonardo DiCaprio and Russell Crowe retroactively contributes a lot more than just the stars it was known for at the time--bisexual villainess Sharon Stone and thespian villain Gene Hackman.
It's tense in the right parts, and knows how to pay tribute and poke fun all in good measure.
