Review of The Pyramid (2014) by Romel Jhan B — 31 May 2015
The Pyramid is one of the dumbest historical horror film ever made. It's clear from the beginning how it's going to turn out: that they will all discover something unbelievable and die. And that's exactly what happened. And that's where this film revolves actually. Its plain cliché and you can smell it from a mile away. There's really nothing else special or exciting or even scary in this film. Its pseudoscience could be interesting even for just a bit but it just fails to convince, it has everything we've already seen before, so it's just an hour and thirty minutes of silly scary tricks.
The characters are what you can expect from a cliché horror film, scientists had never been so dumb. There's nothing to root for with them, they're not just compelling or even fun to watch. You'd just wish them all to die because that would be much more fun to watch.
And what's more annoying is its found-footage style of direction that sometimes just forgets that it's actually a found-footage film. One minute it's found-footage then the next it's not, I mean, what the heck?! It's supposed to be a single-camera film because only one guy holds the camera and he even died but the camera still kept rolling and even in perfect angles. This film failed to hold its found-footage style of direction. The unnecessary glitches and pixelations are also annoying. If a camera glitches, it probably shouldn't work perfectly anymore. This film must be left alone buried in the depth of this pyramid and Anubis forbid Freemason discovers it.
