Review of The Purple Rose of Cairo (1985) by Penny L — 07 Jan 2012
The Purple Rose of Cairo is the best Woody Allen film made, and I say this without having seen many of his other films. I say this with full confidence to, and it would take a lot for something to surpass the precious Purple Rose of Cairo.
Part of the reason I may love this movie is because it is too, about movies (well, part of it.) A poor women in the Great Depression finds movies her only escape and when one of the characters from a movie comes down from the screen to profess his love to her, that's when things start getting really interesting.
This movie is humorous and ulmitatly left me in tears, with outstanding performances from Mia Farrow and Jeff Daniels.
