Review of The Purge: Anarchy (2014) by Ben T — 22 Nov 2014
The purge was a film that just didn't work. It was boring, dull and not very fun. It totally ruined a fantastic concept. However the purge anarchy thank god is much better. This film had the good idea to set it outside instead of in a small house.
The villains in the film are great there's a real film of tension as they stalk the protagonists. The best thing about this movie however is Frank Grillo, he's absolutely brilliant as the lead and much better than Ethan Hawke who wasn't even that bad.
The action is also great, it's balls to the wall brutal fun. However it's not a perfect film as the dialogue is pretty awful and the pacing is all over the place. Also except from Frank Grillo the acting is kind of all over the place.
However the purge anarchy has very fun action and while its not for everyone I really enjoyed and hopefully this is a good sign of what's to come for the purge movies. B-.
