Review of The Punisher (2004) by Jeremy S — 24 May 2010
Not quite comic-booky enough for me, and a little too spaghetti western. Although Thomas Jane made an excellent punisher (far better than Stevenson, and more solidly acted than Lundgren) and they told the origins very well, once he became the punisher things really slowed down.
There needed to be more tongue-in-cheek violence and less spy-like setting up, I mean, the only really juicy fights were one right at the start and one right at the end! If they had treated this with a little more humor, this would be easily the best of the franchise.
Thomas Jane really was fantastic though.
