Review of The Punisher (2004) by Dan F — 05 Feb 2013
While not a perfect interpretation of the comic, Jane does a good job of embodying the violent vigilante. Travolta, too, is a surprisingly malicious villain but the film misses the point of Frank Castle, putting him on a calculated and cruel (sometimes creatively so) revenge spree rather than exacting justice on the criminal underworld (War Zone does a better job of that aspect).
It sets the groundwork for a franchise, which was abandoned unfortunately. A recent unofficial short featuring Jane as Castle once more is doing the rounds as of 2012, so maybe there's hope for him, what with Marcel having reclaimed the rights from Lionsgate following a third unsuccessful attempt to being Punisher to the screen.
