Review of The Public Enemy (1931) by Philip H — 31 Mar 2008
"I ain't so tough".
William Wellman classic gangster film introduce to the world two things, one it was among the first of the gangster pic, the other being little caesar and secondly, james cagney. There is an elegance about the film when it comes to the shot and they way it looks but some of the melodrama is way over the top or corny. Cagney and Harlow are the two stand outs, Cagney with his raw energy and grace and Harlow with her presence. Flawed but still entertaining.
