Review of The Public Enemy (1931) by Tyler S — 01 Aug 2008
Solid gangster pic with an insta-star turn from Cagney, who fires up the screen with ease whenever he is in the frame. Although the plot is nothing special and there are many stereotypical characters, you can find echoes of Cagney's character and style from James Dean to Malcolm McDowell (especially look for nods forward to A Clockwork Orange).
