Review of The Proposition (2005) by Ken B — 27 Sep 2009
An excellent Western drama set in the Outback of Australia. Ray Winstone steals the movie from star Guy Pearce as an obsessed police Captain who makes a bargain with Pearce's character to set off journeys of blood, betrayal, fear, and self-discovery in both men.
Dramatic without being pretentious. Violent without being pornographic. Gritty without sacrificing substance. Simple in plot without sacrificing depth of art, craft, and performance. The Proposition" is the best movie from this genre in years.
