Review of The Proposition (2005) by Jeff D — 16 Jun 2010
I'm gonna go on record and say that 'The Proposition' is the best movie of the decade...so far.
'The Proposition' is basically a ''remake'' of 'Apocalypse Now' set in 1880's Australian outback. A lawman (Ray WInstone) apprehends an outlaw (Guy Pearce) and presents him with the proposition to kill his older brother (a batshit crazy psychopath who lives in the wilderness among Natives) in exchange for pardon and his younger brother's life, who's condemned to be hung on Christmas. Like Captain Willard in 'Apocalypse Now', Pearce undertakes a metaphorical journey into the heart of darkness where he faces his inner demons in the form of the wilderness and his mentor.
I was blown away by the gorgeous cinematography and stellar acting (Ray Winstone fucking owns). Really, I cannot recommend this movie highly enough.
