Review of The Proposition (2005) by Jd H — 04 Aug 2008
I love westerns...and the westerns I really love seem to be meditations on the consequence of action...this one is right up there with Unforgiven on that note...the Australian outback becomes the perfect doppleganger for the American west.
..and ex-confederates and union men are replaced by the irish and the brits...the cinematography, music, writing, and directing are top notch...the performances turned in by Winstone, Pearce, Hurt, Watson, and Wenham are stellar.
..the pacing in this thing is decidedly un-american and will turn a lot of people off...but if you can get past that then Hillcoat/Cave's offering goes down like a cold beer after a long day out in the dust and wind.
