Review of The Proposition (2005) by Joe O — 26 Jul 2009
A very good out of the norm setting Western. While I did think the language was excessive for a Western I would still reccomend to anyone like myself who digs such genres. Fantastic acting all around. Guy Pearce (Count of Monte Cristo) is the 'hero' in a way, and is faced with the challenge to kill his insanely evil brother played fantastically by Danny Huston, in order to save his good brother.
Ray Winestone is the law man who forces him to do it, and his wife played by Emily Watson is friend of the woman who was raped and killed by Danny Huston's gang. A bunch of mean Irish SOBs in one heck of a story tangle in Australia of all places makes for one gripping flick.
Also John Hurt plays a great part as a very mean old bounty hunter. Great one liners, great acting, great story, and fan-freaking-tastic cinematography. As good as any that I've ever seen. Really the only thing that keeps it from being a five star movie is the soundtrack.
The music in the movie doesn't fit and some of it sounds like nails on a chalkboard quite frankly. But nonetheless, awesome flick.
