Review of The Proposition (2005) by Ike O — 27 Aug 2009
Ray Winstone is - as usual amazing, and Danny Huston ('The Constant Gardener') is right behind him as the villain at the center of the titular proposition. So there's no worries on the acting side (Guy Pearce is solid, and Emily Watson exudes such quiet strength as to be infinitely watchable).
The finale is harrowing and deliciously intense, and there is tragedy laced all over one man's underhanded attempt to make a positive difference and another man's torn loyalty between his villainous brother and his innocent, younger simpleton of a sibling.
But somehow, there's still a little bit of something lacking. An interesting watch nonetheless.
