Review of The Proposition (2005) by Sam P — 11 Apr 2012
This was another reccomended film I sat down to watch, and, I will say, the copy I got skipped several times, meaning I missed about 5-10% of the film, which was gutting. However, Iâ(TM)m going on the 90% I did see.
The film was very good, no question about thatâ¦however, msot importantâ¦..the script is fucking fantastic. Itâ(TM)s a script of extremely high quality, and the reason that matters, is cause it was written by Nick Caveâ¦â¦he sings, plays piano, and writes an amazing script. He was known for writing Gladiator 2, which a LOT of people were interested in, and he shows why here.
The directing and acting almost seems secondary, itâ(TM)s an amazing script, however, Danny Huston and Guy Pearce do brilliantly, but brilliantly, as the two main brothers. It has a similar aspect to The Assassination of Jesse James in terms of look and style, and that is a compliment.
What was an amazing part that was so simple, was how there were so many flies in the film. About several hundred flies, I swear down, and that one thing conveyed the heat, the tiredness, the dirtyness, it conveyed the entire film, and it was brilliant.
Definitely wanna watch it properly at some point.
