Review of The Prophecy II (1998) by Ben W — 26 Mar 2009
In this sequel, Lucifer spits Gabriel up out of Hell and the fallen angel resumes his War on Heaven. This time, he's after a girl pregnant with a Nephilim (A baby born of both human and Angel), as its fortold that a Nephilim will end the war and return Peace. However, the girl is being aided by Danyial, an Angel.
While not as good as the first movie, this one is still highly enjoyable. It's much more action-packed, as this is the 'Terminator' movie of the series, what with the rebellious Angels trying to kill a woman before she gives birth to mankind's savior. The entire movie is pretty much 'run, hide, get found, run, hide, get found, repeat'. I know that doesn't sound very interesting, but the characters in this movie make it interesting.
Once again, everyone acts their part perfectly, this time Christopher Walken, while just as bad ass as ever, is matched in terms of acting by some of the other Angels. Also, Brittney Murphy did an excellent job for one of her first starring roles.
It was also really cool to see the modern-day industrial Eden. And even though this one is more action then the first, there's still lots of talk and discussion about Angels and all that, further revealing more about the world that this series takes place in. This movie is also much darker, both in tone and style, then the first movie, and even though in the end when the good guys win, the viewer is still left with a sense of foreboding doom.
My only complaint is that with the runtime so short, and the movie so fast-paced, it zoomed by and was over before I knew it or really had time to process most of what I watched. It diffinitly requires multiple viewings to pick everything up, because of that. Also, I didn't really like the human characters as much as the ones that were in the first movie, and I hated how they had a different actor play Thomas from the first movie. And what made it worst as this actor looked NOTHING like the original actor. At least get someone that somewhat resembles the original actor if you're going to keep a character but change up who plays them.
