Review of The Promotion (2008) by Alex A — 07 Feb 2009
A quirky comedy about the rivalry between two co-workers for the same job promotion. The humour is low key punctuated by moments of true pathos. The main characters try to retain their basic human decency as they compete in Corporate Amercia's ever shrinking pool of suitable job oppurtunities.
John C. Reilly's portrayal is both comic and touching, as he gradually reveals his numerous ineptitudes. The outcome is inevitable and the subject especially appropriate, as low paying jobs and lay offs become the norm in middle class society.
