Review of The Promise (2017) by Greg K — 22 Apr 2017
A long overdue mainstream movie from "Hollywood" depicting the events of the Armenian Genocide. It fairly and truthfully portrays the trajectory of the the horrific events that transpired at the hands of the Young Turks.
A fictional triangular love story pits two men in love with the same woman. But the onset of the genocide spins their lives into a tailspin that takes them, and the audience, on a journey into the events that happen as the world around them falls apart.
Bale & Isaac are solid in their performances. Le Bon endearingly serves her character. The film hits all the important notes informing the audience, and reminding us that tragedy has great costs.
