Review of The Promise (2016) by Maral%20 A — 24 Apr 2017
I didn't know what to expect - What I did know was that it would be telling the story of the Armenian Genocide. However, it told more than that! It highlighted culture, faith, determination of a race. The ability to survive, trials and tribulations. The setting mirrored historical Armenia on point. Oscar Issac did an amazing job portraying an Armenian. The entire cast played their roles very well, completely in character. The music was very complimenting to both the Armenian culture, traditional folklores, etc.
Most importantly this movie touched on a very important part of history that is still in denial today - the Armenian Genocide- where 1.5 million Armenians were killed. A genocide that is still denied by Turkey today. Even the US- who had ambassadors in Armenia at the time, deny what happened and refuse to call it a genocide. I PROMISE NEVER to FORGET! GREAT FILM!
