A film equally substandard as it is magnificent. The Promise is deeply flawed for it is painstakingly long, suffers from bad editing, and focuses on a silly love triangle while telling a harrowing real life story about the genocide of the Armenian people.
But the fantastic cast manages to salvage it with their praiseworthy performances.
