Review of The Promise (2016) by Lucia F — 27 Apr 2017
I loved this movie! It shows how people fall in love even during the most tragic circumstances. It is amazing how complicated human feelings are.
All the actors deliver powerful performances. They are very brave to have accepted participating in this movie, which was expected to encounter (and has indeed encountered) the opposition and hatred of some groups.
The photography is wonderful, with beautiful landscapes of villages in the mountains of Anatolia and the incredible city of Constantinople (now Istanbul).
I am very interested in History, so I found the historical facts of this movie fascinating. The tragedy of the Armenian Genocide was so terrible for this millenary people, and many historical facts surrounding it, although it happened a century ago, are not known to the general public.
