Review of The Producers (1968) by Valerie M — 17 May 2008
My favorite Mel Brooks film (although Young Frankenstein runs a close second). The script is hilarious, but it's the actors that really make this movie a classic. The two leads are brilliant (Gene Wilder is over the top, but more in a much more subtle way than Matthew Broderick in the remake, if that makes any sense), and it's hard to decide which of the supporting characters are the best (I switch between Roger DeBris and Franz Liebkind with every viewing).
"Springtime for Hitler" gives new meaning to the word "showstopper." Improves on every viewing.
