Review of The Producers (1968) by Matthew A — 30 May 2008
You can definitely tell it was Brooks' debut, because it doesn't come near "Young Frankenstein" or "Blazing Saddles.".
Overall, I was disappointed, but I don't blame it on the film.
I think Brooks basically redefined this movie with the Broadway musical and in many ways, I find the musical better.
But I can't hold that against it, considering that the movie was re-vamped into a musical thirty years later for a completely different audience.
Gene Wilder is brilliant.
Mostel has never thrilled me. Not entirely sure why.
