Review of The Producers (1968) by Louise B — 02 Jun 2009
Ahead of its time for sure. I love Gene Wilder and I reallllllly love Mel Brooks! Gene Wilder was simply amazing in this movie and Zero Mostel did a great job. The scheme to bilk money from little old ladies was inspired.
I thought that the script writer was a bit over the top at times (but then we are talking Mel Brooks here folks!) The entire premise is genius, but in particular the opening scene (in which Gene Wilde first shows up at the office and the scheme is hatched) is one of the most brilliant bits of comedy I've seen in a while.
It was seriously hilarious and if you love Gene Wilder and Mel Brooks you should definitely watch it!
