Review of The Private Lives of Elizabeth and Essex (1939) by Private U — 05 Oct 2007
This was a good movie. Bette Davis was fabulous. The best part was the sad tableau of Elizabeth upon her throne, completely alone, in this cavernous room. It was such a sad and striking visual representation of the isolation that came with keeping the throne.
It was a tortuous love story where you just couldn't help but hope that they get a happily-ever-after, despite the history books.
