Review of The Private Lives of Elizabeth and Essex (1939) by Mya G — 13 Dec 2008
Having suffered untold indignities in "Anne of the Thousand Days" and "Mary of Scotland", the Tudor dynasty is once again brutally savaged by a torpid, over-long and completely ludicrous script by Maxwell Anderson.
This movie was unbearable to watch - not even Bette Davis's enthusiastic Elizabeth-with-Parkinson's impression or Errol Flynn's classic infuriating-yet-loveable-rogue shtick could save it.
A travesty of storytelling. Words fail me.
