This is really Laughton's show, and he serves as a great centerpiece for this lavish period production. While they take some liberties with the actual story, it's pretty engaging. The filmwork is not particularly innovative or inspired, but it's typical of the period.
If you like classic 30's cinema, this is compulsory.
