Review of The Prisoner of Shark Island (1936) by Cli O — 14 Aug 2008
Thatâ??s three John Ford non-documentary feature films in which Abraham Lincoln appears by my count and I wouldnâ??t be surprised if there are more out there. I suspect he is the only director about which this can be said.
Lincoln seems like the kind of man worthy of three Ford films though. Ford is an incredibly engaging storyteller. He seems to know exactly how to pique oneâ??s interest and keep them engaged in the film.
This doesnâ??t seem to have been the proudest moment in our nationâ??s history. Itâ??s interesting to compare this reaction to the reaction of the current administration to the prosecutorial problems of today.
Ford is a true patriotic in that he isnâ??t afraid to criticize his country in order to point out its failings and better it for future generations. Excellent work, as always.
