Review of The Princess Diaries (2001) by Conner R — 09 Aug 2010
It's odd to think of a Teen Girl movie not being corny and pathetic, it's usually the trend with the genre. This is the case with this though. This is so heart felt, so sympathetic and well made that there's no denying it's a masterpiece among coming of age movies.
It also happens to be the movie that catapulted Anne Hathaway into the world, she is perfect and lovable as Mia Thermopolis. Garry Marshall can do either a great job or a so/so job with the romantic genre, this is easily his best work.
Mainly because it's so honest and charming on all levels. The cinematography is a lot grander than it might have been under another crew, making Mia's story larger than life and important to the audience.
This was also a movie that i've loved since a young age and manages to still hold up today.
