Review of The Princess Diaries (2001) by Naomi G — 08 Oct 2015
As the film that can be said to inaugurate Hathaway's brilliant cinematic career, it might be the most brilliant performance by the best actress in Hollywood. Why Anne was never nominated for an Academy award for her role as Mia, I do not know, perhaps an honorary Oscar will be bestowed upon her in the future.
The film definitely has the reincarnated Disney stamp on it, and I feel sorry that Hathaway had to struggle through the cookie cutter requirements Disney imposes upon its films in order to bring some life to what would have been an atrocious, juvenile piece of work.
and life Anne brought to this movie and in abundance, so much so that, and I know many will disagree with me, she mad The Princess Diaries the greatest movie ever to emerge from Hollywood, putting Citizen Kane, the works of Hitchcock, all others, to shame.
