Review of The Princess Bride (1987) by Dan H — 21 Feb 2014
Silly and sweet. A grandfather (Peter Falk) visits his grandson (Fred Savage) who has a cold. To comfort him, he reads him a fantastical story about farm boy Westley (Cary Elwes) and his true love Buttercup (Robin Wright).
It's got a great cast of characters (Andre The Giant as Fezzik, Mandy Patinkin as Inigo Montoya, Cary Elwes as Westley, and Peter Falk as the grandfather are all fantastic. Poor Robin Wright is beautiful as Buttercup but isn't given much to do except pace around and wait to be rescued by Westley).
This is easily one of the best fantasies you can see. It's always a joy to have Columbo read us a bedtime story.
