Review of The Princess Bride (1987) by Dylan M — 30 Mar 2015
Classic romantic fantasy that sets itself apart by poking fun at the genre while still being a great one in it's own right. The cast is top notch across with board, with Elwes the embodiment of the dashing hero while Wright is stunning as Princess Buttercup.
The scene-stealer, though, is the great Mandy Patinkin as the vengeful swordsman,Inigo Montoya ("You kill my father. Prepare to day"). Behind the scenes, Reiner's direction keeps things moving fast with some fantastic action sequences (the sword fight between Montoya & the Dread Pirate Roberts remains one of the best ever filmed) while Goldman's expertly adapts his book to the screen (and quite frankly, improves upon it), complete with plenty of twists & brilliant dialogue that you will be quoting for years.
A true classic.
