Review of The Princess and the Frog (2009) by Lea B — 12 Oct 2015
After the terrible "Home on the Range" movie (Which felt like it killed hand drawn animation), it was nice to see hand drawn animated film back in theaters. When I saw the trailer for this movie, I was astonished by it and expected it to be something really good and enchanting and surprisingly... I can see why. The way they captured the atmosphere and spirit of New Orleans and jazz music is amazing, beautiful and really fun. The characters are entertaining (one of them being voiced by Keith David who also did the voice of Goliath in Disney's Gargoyles), the story is intriguing, the animation is absolutely beautiful (especially in the scenes of nightime when Tiana and Naveen are in the Bayou, and of course when there is magic happening in the movie) and the songs are very catchy, my personal favorites are Gonna Take You There and Friends on the Other Side.
It really felt like I was watching a true magic of Disney animation that came from Disney Renaissance era. In fact, I feel like this movie payed the homage to the Disney Renaissance era, as oppose to Frozen. And it was very nice to see it done in hand drawn animation after CGI pretty much conquered the world as they say.
