Review of The Princess and the Frog (2009) by Carlotta 4 — 26 Dec 2017
It wasn't a BAD movie, but nothing was particularly moving or remarkable about it.
In fact, what can I even say about it? The villain was awesome. The lead Tiana was perfect (and therefore also perfectly unrelatable. Almost as if they were afraid to give her any flaws due to her iconic status as the first black Disney princess). The frog was alright as a toned down Swan Princess character. The alligator and the firefly were complete wastes of time, PARTICULARLY on the "firefly scene" when I think most audience members looked around at each other and said "wait... is this supposed to be sad?".
Most people remember Tiana's friend because she was hilarious and had a lot of varied expressions and emotions. Or they remember Facilier's song. Some might even remember the animation (I have desperately been missing Disney's traditional animation department)... but that's it. It doesn't make up for an "okay" plot (which focused on typical animal hijinks) and boring characters.
Disney made a very safe movie. And it turned out okay. So I was disappointed.
