Review of The Prince of Egypt (1998) by Rozelyn P — 16 Dec 2010
There were many things that made this animated biblical epic a masterpiece. One: its stellar all-star cast. Two: a breathtaking score by Hans Zimmer, one of Hollywood's musical masters. Three: Its gorgeous animation. And finally: its suprising depth. This is a children's movie, yes, but the subject matter in this film is often very heavy.
The film tells the story of Moses, of the book of Exodus. It tells this story in a manner which is appropriate for younger audiences, but can still be enjoyed by older audiences. "Prince of Egypt" is a fine, fine film!
This is, without a shadow of a doubt, the most intelligent animated movie ever produced that I have seen to this date! The story of Moses freeing his people has never been seen like this! An absolute masterpiece!
