Review of The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie (1969) by Kristen L — 27 Apr 2009

This movie is one of those rare movies where the star is the least likable character in the movie. At first, you find her intentions good, but then you realize that nobody in her world is as fantastic as she is and her pitiful, misguided notions (esp. about Mussollini - yikes, how did he impress her so much while she was in Italy?).

Watch Miss Jean Brodie wrap herself in her ill concieved notions that she is right about everything and her predictions will come true. She is so far off because she doesn't seem to know anyone as well as she knows herself. She sees things so ideally that she never lets her guard down. She'll eat you up alive, including her lovers. Mr. Lowther will be enchanted by her, only to realize much later that he was being whipped by her. Mr. Stephen's sees right through her, as well. The men her life will do anything for her until they realize, too, that she's really only looking out for herself and her pride.

Yes, please watch this, just to see how one person can really effect everyone. Miss Jean Brodie, in a sense, is much like a overruling dictator and maybe that's why she found them so facsinating.
