Powerful movie that I didn't expect. It shows the flaws of traditional education the Scotland through a self empowered teacher who takes it upon herself to educate her girls in all the ways of life.
It must have been a controversial one for its time with the teacher guiding the girls to affairs with older men, to fight in Spain for Franco and fillander in Italy during the summer. It manages to raise the issue of what is the purpose of education and what is proper.
Maggie smith was perfect for the part and the girls are equally as compelling,.
