Review of The Prestige (2006) by Pedro C — 28 Nov 2014
SPOILER FREE REVIEW.
The Prestige is probably the only movie I have ever restarted immediately after finishing it. It was so good. It just had everything I want from a movie. An awesome intro and outro monologue that can carry the movie by itself, great acting, and a story that's so twisted and interesting it blows your mind!
I wasn't too crazy about the romances, they were a bit distracting and just a weak part of the story, but it hardly took away from the main story of the two main characters rivalry as magicians. It got intense and even shocking at times. And of course the narrative jumps around the timeline, as one thing is happening other things are being told through flashbacks, because it's Nolan's trademark that his stories not be told chronologically. Not to say it doesn't work for the movie, because it totally does.
Overall, The Prestige is an amazing movie. It had great moments and quotable dialogue, everyone was on top of their game, the story had weak romances but was nonetheless kickass and it actually had a strong message, and it just happens to be in my top 10 favorites.
9.5/10.
