Review of The Prestige (2006) by Aditya M — 17 Jan 2016
Certainly the most outlandish and implausible film in Christopher Nolan's filmography (yes, more so than those superhero movies he did), this complex and intense story about two rival magicians is nevertheless a gripping and tense watch.
'The Prestige' refers to the final act of a magic trick, and the film has quite a prestige itself, wherein Nolan manages to tie up the strands he has carefully tossed out over the course of two hours in a dramatic conclusion.
Yes, like any non-Batman Nolan movie, there are twists, and some would say too many, but the performances by Hugh Jackman (very good), Christian Bale (terrific) and Michael Caine (essential) make the story as believable as it could be.
