Review of The Presence (2010) by Gabriela E — 17 Apr 2011
I caught this last week at the Dallas Film Festival and was blown away. It is a very different movie, highly original. The first 30 minutes, for instance, has virtually no dialogue. There are no special effects, there is no gore.
.. just a quiet, creepy building dread that really pays off if you are willing to think. The director, who did a Q&A after the screening, said Polanski and 'Rosemary's Baby' were a big influence and I felt that was apparent.
Don't see it if you are expecting horror but if you want a movie that tries to do something different and really succeeds, this is one for you. The acting is top notch and the cinematography and score also are excellent.
