Review of The Poughkeepsie Tapes (2007) by Giovanni P — 09 May 2009
I waited one year before having the chance to watch this, and I had very high expectations. I'll be frank: 80% of this mockumentary is full of awful acting and boring reconstructions, BUT four or five sequences are meant to stay in your mind for a long time.
The basic concept is very interesting; this Water Street Butcher is a "real" sicko, the twisted story of Cheryl Dempsey is a plus, and a couple of scenes cross the boundaries of good sense (in a positive way).
I expected it to be even more daring - still it's a shame "The Poughkeepsie Tapes" won't be released ("some psycho could imitate", you know... ?).
