Review of The Postman Always Rings Twice (1946) by Jack W — 18 Apr 2010
Lana Turner is incredible in this role, and not enough can be said for how beautiful she was. Watching the film I was amazed wondering how they escaped the wrath of the PCA. Several times Turner bares so much of herself, particularly her long legs and that combined with the content makes me wonder how they got the film by the PCA.
The story does tend to drag, if they could have shortened it by 30 minutes it would have been wonderful. The film exhibits all of the classic noir features and also has a great score. The only thing I could not take was John Garfield in the role of Frank.
He just annoyed me and I could not get behind him as the protagonist. Can't wait to see the 1981 version.
