Review of The Postman (1997) by Ken C — 26 Aug 2011

Tell you the truth, i've seen worse. This movie won in almost every Razzie category you can think of back in 1998 including worst of the decade. This is NOT the worst movie of the decade, or even of 1997 for that matter, in fact almost every Razzie that this movie won is just total baloney. The movie has some pretty nice scenery to look at, Kevin Costner I think doesn't do a half bad job as the lead character, and I actually kinda like the story.

Yes, the script gets veeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeery corny after awhile and some scenes are just stupid and unneccesary, but other than that the rest of the movie is pretty good. I especially like how dark it is, they actually kill children in this movie which may seem a little too much for some, but others will think it has plenty of balls. Costner is very sympathetic and entertaining as The Postman and I like how his real name is never mentioned once. The rest of the cast was pretty damn good too, all the cornball charcters even, because it wasn't there fault that there dialogue was awful.

I think this movie ranks up there with Waterworld which was another apocalyptic movie that got a bad rap. The Postman gets extra points for originality though, something that Waterworld didn't have. The Postman is very long however which I think was one of the reasons that so many people discarded this movie. I think that if you go into it with an open mind and without such a snobish attitude you hopefully wont fall into the critics trap and may actually like the movie for what it is.

And unlike in my Dragonfly review where I said the main reason why I liked it was because it had a very cozy early 2000's feel to it, The Postman I like for all the reasons anybody would like a movie.

If your looking for a nice, long, epic with good performances and very pleasant scenery to look at, i'd say check this out if your not too busy. Do not listen to any of the reviews it's NOT-THAT-BAD!!!!!!!! Trust me.
