Review of The Post (2017) by Tim B — 13 Jan 2018
It fascinates me that the guy who pretty much created the blockbuster, is now cranking out these important American films that, while obviously promoted, are more like indie film / historical artifacts than the junk food that they share the marquee with.
He's telling triumphant stories of real-life heroes, and capturing a look that all other films aspire to. He's using history to remind us what we need to remember now more than ever, and it's refreshing to me in this time of fantasy and escapism at the theaters, to see (possibly the greatest American filmmaker) Steven Spielberg underlining the necessity of truth for anyone who's still paying attention.
