Review of The Post (2017) by Tim F — 23 Jan 2018
Over-directed, over-reaching, over-acted, over-rewarded, and a plot line that is a mess. Although Meryl Streep gives a performance that should garner some attention for the mess of a screenplay she was given, the resulting film is a waste of time.
Bob Odenkirk is the true standout within this entire fiasco. He should be receiving any nominations that result from this Speilberg production. Did I mention Tom Hanks horrible attempt to mimic Ben Bradlee? He should have watched Jason Robards portrayal in "All The President's Men" a thousand times before this horrible attempt.
The screenplay was an attempt to give life to: The Pentagon Papers, The Washington Post, Katharine Graham, Ben Bradlee, the virtue and selflessness of reporting, and the tyrannical evil of the American Government over decades of administrations.
This movie fails to deliver in all but the fleshing out of the Katharine Graham character. Give this movie a pass and save your money.
