Review of The Post (2017) by Toby H — 29 Jan 2018
The Post is a terrific film! Spielberg, Streep and Hanks are all outstanding, but it is the screenplay that is the real star of the show. The writers ( one of whom also wrote Spotlight), do an inspiring job of weaving together a complicated political context with rich characterization building to a mesmerizing climax.
When I see movies like this I'm reminded why the current super hero movies are so depressing. The Post entertains us, informs us and keeps us on the edge of our seats, whilst teaching us about the fragility of democracy and the inner courage of people who have to face real world demons far worse than those created by cgi.
