Review of The Poseidon Adventure (1972) by Rachael W — 13 May 2009
One of the original disaster films - but that's what you get for naming a boat after the Greek God of both the sea and earthquakes. This movie has all the variables (minus the golden retriever) from the formula Hollywood derived long ago for its action-packed blockbusters.
Iâ??ll admit the one-time award winning effects are dated, but please marvel at the detail required for all the sets to be upside down. The beginning is slow as characters are developed, but the tension builds as quickly as the sea tears through the ship.
What helps is that there are no aliens or rabid animals hunting unsuspecting humans; instead of a monster, itâ??s the swift, relentless Atlantic instilling all the fear.
